new year’s day 2012
I know this is a little late, but better late than never! After getting to bed at 6 a.m. that day, we didn’t make it out of the house until around 4:20 and got into Center City around 5, in time to see the last of the Mummers walking down Broad Street. That’s okay, though, because we were really going for the post-parade party on 2nd St.
Here are the photos. Enjoy!

I think this would make a nice print.
While most people threw their empty cans on the ground, some people had more creative ideas for their disposal.
Child Mummers kind of freak me out even more than the older ones.

Their uniforms coordinate well with the colors of the Mummers museum.
I saw this guy out the window of the bar we went to after leaving 2nd Street. We’ve seen him a few times before. I think he’s homeless and makes money by doing these crazy tricks.

You got some beautiful pictures that I really like. WOW! Nice photography. You used a flash? What kind of camera and lens?
What is a Mummer?
thanks, JR! no, i didn’t use a flash. just my canon 5D with a 50mm f/1.4 and a white-balance card. here is a good article that explains the strange people who call themselves mummers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mummers_Parade
That setup did a great job for you.
Thanks for the link to the Mummers. It is a very interesting cultural event.
